Antifouling properties are primarily achieved through water- and oil-repellent finishing agents. Common components include fluorine-based or fluorine-free water-repellent resins, nano-silica, and cross-linking agents; these function by lowering the fabric's surface tension to prevent liquid stains from wetting or penetrating the material.
Marine Engineering
This is the sector with the most extensive application of antifouling raw materials, though core components vary significantly by product type:
Traditional copper-based antifouling materials: These utilize cuprous oxide or cuprous thiocyanate as the primary antifouling agents, combined with components such as chlorinated rubber, rosin, and solvents; they currently represent the most widely commercialized type.
Eco-friendly biomimetic antifouling materials: These primarily employ natural marine bioactive extracts (such as terpenes and alkaloids), low-surface-energy materials (silicone or fluororesins), and nanomaterials (like nano-silver). Free from heavy-metal toxicity, they represent a "green" approach to antifouling.
Proprietary underwater antifouling paints: These formulations typically contain 2–5 parts chlorinated rubber, 1–3 parts chloro-ether resin, 35–50 parts antifouling agents, and composite rosin, among other components, to deliver stable, long-lasting antifouling performance.
